I Identifying Local Opportunities
1. 1. Tropical Cyclone Nine will likely strengthen.
The Bahamas and Florida are in its path.
https://www.tampabay.com/hurricane/2019/09/12/tropical-depression-tropical-storm-humberto-have-high-chance-of-formation-from-invest-95l/
After devastation of Hurricane Dorian destroying the Bahamas,
it has been stated there is another tropical storm heading northwest to the Bahamas.
But will hit an immediate landfall on Florida. They have not been able to
predict how bad this tropical storm can strengthen. However, with uncertainty,
this can be very stressful as the Bahamas has already been hit and now Florida with
speculation of being eyed for this tropical storm.
The problem presented in this story is this storm can be strengthening
to a hurricane and the name will be Humberto. Also, states, conditions are becoming
favorable for a tropical depression or a tropical storm to form within the next
day or so.
The Bahamas and the state of Florida has the problem.
Living on an island and living in Florida, in which is surrounded by the Gulf
of Mexico has very high chances of facing tropical storm that strengthen into a
Hurricane.

2. Six students arrested after fights break out at
Middleton High School
Six students were arrested and two were taken to the
hospital, when a fight broke out at Middleton High School. With many schools dealing
with this issue day to day, this has been ongoing. Many fights break out due to
bullying, gang related and other things that kids will normally fight about.
Reading this article, it states, a boy was surrounded and tackled by many other
students. In this case and analyzing the information, the student was being
bullied.
The problem presented to in this story is the student who
was tackled to the ground by multiple students, could have prevented this. Most
students are scared to go to their teachers, principles or even parents to tell
them about this occurring issue.
The teachers, students, school and the parents are the
people who have the problem. In order, for this to stop taking place at school,
many of the adults need to help stop this from escalating into a massive problem.
3. 3. Iron
Gwazi at Busch Gardens, new SeaWorld coaster coming in 2020
Many people travel to Tampa FL for the amusement parks. In
which, they are Busch Gardens and Sea World. A conference was held on Thursday regarding
a new roller coaster being built at Busch Gardens. It will be the North America’s
tallest hybrid coaster at more than 206 feet, with the world’s fastest and
sharpest hybrid coaster drop of 91 degrees.
The problem presented in this story is building a roller
coaster in Tampa FL in which, many people don’t travel to Tampa as a tourist
city. Maybe this roller coaster could have been built in Orlando.
The people with the problem is the builders and the theme
park, to expect this ride will be better and attract more tourist or out of
town people to Tampa FL.
4. 4. The
Batman walks 3-year-old girl to school after she was bullied by classmates
Spring Hill has its own Dark Knight and he came to rescue a
little 3-year girl, who he walked to school after being bullied by classmates.
Many little kids are now being bullied and it is starting with kids at an early
age. Mother Erica of the little girl stated, daughter was coming home with bruises
over her body and even a black eye. When being a 3-year old there’s no way you
can defend yourself. However, the teachers or staff should be doing their jobs
to defend a student that is being bullied before a situation being escalated to
being physical.
The problem presented in this story, is a 3-year old child
being attacked by other students. In which, in some day cares there can be
older kids. Being that this child that has been abuse can not defend herself
then we need to look at the staff for the blame.
The people with the problem is the school, parents of the
other kids and the staff at the school. If you are not able to monitor the kids,
then hire more workers.

5. Radar
finds more than 120 coffins buried beneath Tampa apartment complex
A radar detected what appear to be more than 120 coffins
under an apartment complex in Tampa, in which, this cemetery was lost and has
not been revealed until by Tampa Bay Times. The 2.5-acre, segregation-era
burial ground, in which to believe the city’s first for African Americans. This
cemetery was established in 1901 on Florida Ave in Tampa FL. Back in 1951 when
building the apartment complex, builders found three caskets and no investigation
started to research for other coffins.
The problem presented with this; cemetery was not revealed
until now. There were over 200 bodies found. Also, the problem is the builders
building the apartments to not been able to detect there were dead bodies on
this land.
The people with the problem is the people who started this
cemetery and didn’t think to make it known to people that coffins are located
on this land. Also, families not being able to visit their loved one and know
about this issue. It took many years for this problem to be revealed.
Hi Miriam,
ReplyDeleteGrowing up here in Florida, I am very familiar with Busch Gardens and the news of a new roller coaster is very exciting. This will attract a large number of new tourists to the area. Additionally, if another storm were to hit the Bahamas, their lifestyle would be even more destroyed than it is already. The islands would have to go through major redevelopment even if a small storm hits the area.

Hi Miriam,
ReplyDeleteI thought it was very interesting that you decided to pick the article about batman walking the child home after being bullied. Bullying has definitely become more well known over the years and more apparent in children's play. My cousin actually used to get bullied a lot as a child and her family ended up moving just so she would be able to have a fresh start.

ReplyDeleteHi Miriam,
ReplyDeleteEver since I moved to the United States (2012) I have been going to Busch Gardens every year. The news regarding the new rollercoaster is very exciting, in case you could not tell, I am a fan of rollercoasters myself. In regards to the 2 articles that revolve around bullying, I am honestly shocked people still suffer from bullying considering it is now a lot more emphasized than it used to be. I have never been bullied nor do I know of anyone personally who has been bullied but I can only imagine how awful it must be. Overall these were very interesting articles I enjoyed reading.
Hi Miriam,
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt that hurricanes are a major issue for places bordering the Atlantic ocean, it seems they have become more violent in recent years. It definitely poses an opportunity for people to help evacuate before the storm, and help repair the affected areas after the storm. The article about coffins being found underneath the apartment complex is crazy! I wonder if any of the residents have moved out since. It is sad that the families will not be able to visit their lost loved ones.
